Description | What we doThe International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
PurposeThe Security & Crisis Management Research & Development Associate will contribute primarily to two aspects of the team’s work: First, with data analytics and research; and second to the transition to a new security management information platform. The data analytics and research activities include working in a team on the compilation, preparation, validation and visualisation of ICRC’s weekly, quarterly and annual security & safety incident and minimum security requirements data. The Associate also provides ad hoc research and reports of incident data as required by SCMS colleagues, and contributes to future strategic development of the SCMS’s security data platform. The incumbent will have the opportunity to help shape this concept through support with its ongoing development and roll-out to delegations in the field. The incumbent will be part of the support team, where capacity for logical and deductive-thinking will be key to navigate ICRC technology landscapes and databases to feed and improve the platform. In additilon, the incumbent will contribute to the compilation, preparation, validation and visualisation of ICRC’s quarterly security & safety incident data. For instance, Minimum Security Requirements is composed of the following activities for which the Associate is a key contributor:
