This is a full-time, hybrid position located in East Africa and is open to candidates with current residence and work authorization in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zambia, or Mozambique. Fluency in English is required. International travel up to 40% is required. To be considered, candidates must have proximity to a ChildFund office location.

About This Role
The Sr. Manager, Regional Security and Risk Analyst has a critical role in analyzing and maintaining a safe and secure environment for ChildFund’s programs and activities, ensuring that the organization can achieve its mission effectively and safely. The Sr. Manager, Regional Security & Risk Analyst reports to the Sr. Director, Global Safety & Security and is a strong and proactive partner with the regional directors, country directors, the global security team, program teams, security focal points, and others. This role oversees two security managers.

The person in this role will have a significant impact on our ability to achieve our critical organizational security strategy in Africa. Required Experience and Education

  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years as an analyst, 3 years in a multi-country regional role, and 8 years total professional experience in security and/or risk management in an international organization context.
  • Experience working in Africa.
  • Experience living and working in a high-risk country context preferred.
  • Training of Trainers certification or Adult Learning skills training certification preferred.
  • Experience with an international non-governmental organization (INGO) strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities
Analysis

  • Proactively produce quality analysis and reports and understand the threats and program goals in the region.
  • Identify and analyze sources and drivers of risk to achieving program objectives and organizational resilience, areas of impact and potential consequences.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and emerging threats in the region.
  • Develop and implement advanced risk assessment methodologies to evaluate potential security threats.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on comprehensive analysis to inform decision-making processes.

Security Risk Management

  • Develop, review and update the country’s security risk management plans. Achieving a yearly performance rate of 90% or higher.
  • Promote international security standards to and from the region and provide oversight for compliance to security standards.
  • Design and deliver comprehensive adult learning programs and training sessions that incorporate best practices in adult education, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants.
  • Collaborate as a key contributor in the development of an effective training strategy and curriculum design that reflects ChildFund’s strategic direction, cultural diversity, operational threat environment and international practices.
  • Key contributor in critical incident management: prevention, response, follow-up, after action reviews.   Responsible for information management during a critical event and maintain all notes, logs, and information.
  • Actively promote a culture of incident sharing and risk management.
  • Proactively report and update incidents using established protocols.
  • Maintain the global security training register.
  • Co-manage international travel approval process.
  • Develop intentional communication and consultative plans with your region and disseminate timely briefings, reports, alerts, and advisories.
  • Deploy as surge support to locations or countries, during needed times such as emergency responses, heighted insecurity or conflict, or to provide additional capacity.
  • Maintain strong regional networks with governmental and international agencies (e.g., OSAC, UNSLT, and other NGOs). Is an active member of OSAC and the UNSLT (or proxy interagency security groups).

Leadership, Management & Partnership

  • Provide quality support and oversee the effectiveness of the security risk management efforts of countries. Achieve a regional standards-based performance rate of 90% or higher.
  • Lead and manage a team of security professionals, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to ensure the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Achieve a security focal point performance rate of 85% or higher. Partner with country directors to execute the security focal point program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to capacity building, training, regular discussions and performance analysis and feedback.
  • Proactively assemble cross-functional working groups and consult widely for customer feedback and input for new projects and existing services.
  • Support Country Directors to budget, implement and monitor risk treatments.
  • Apply project management skills and takes on new security projects to strengthen processes and systems.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of direct reports (up to three), fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Lead by example, promoting a collaborative and inclusive security team environment.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to direct reports.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Required Competencies

  • The ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English is required. Proficiency in French, Amharic, or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills, report writing and presentations. Demonstrated ability to undertake complex security and risk analysis.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority, with a track record of serving as a champion and advocate for security risk management standards.
  • Strong organization skills: demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Strong presentation and adult training skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills at all levels of an organization.
  • Excellent judgment and risk assessment capability.
  • High resilience, with the ability to lead others through change and challenges.
  • A commitment to participating in an inclusive environment and the desire to be part of a diverse team.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing security policies, procedures, and risk management strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of security protocols, risk management frameworks, and best practices.
  • Familiarity with regional security issues, political dynamics, and regulatory requirements in Africa.
  • Understanding of business continuity planning and disaster recovery.

Other Criteria

  • Current work authorization and residence in Africa with proximity to ChildFund country office is required.
  • Must not be restricted to travel or to obtain a visa to any country in Africa or to the United States.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% overnight.
  • Please note: this is a salaried position and pay is in local currency.
