In this Impact Session:

While attacks against aid workers are increasing, aid organisations working in medium-risk contexts often consider this a problem that affects only organisations operating in high-risk locations. However, the importance of ensuring staff are, and feel, safe and secure is essential for their wellbeing and effectiveness in all contexts. In addition, we have seen how contexts perceived as ‘medium risk’ rapidly change, for example, Ethiopia, and that if systems and processes for security risk management (SRM) are not in place, our ability to respond and ensure staff’s physical and mental wellbeing becomes challenging. When an organisation’s SRM approach is appropriate and embedded within the organisational culture it can build staff, team and organisational resilience as well as enabling programmes to be delivered.
