In early 2024, a group of NGOs launched Protect Aid Workers. This new mechanism provides financial assistance and legal aid to humanitarian workers facing security incidents or immediate threats arising from their work. These include cases of violence, kidnapping, arrests, and more. Grants of up to €10,000 are available for each eligible case. The grants support aid workers and their families to recover from incidents.
In its first year, Protect Aid Workers supported over 100 beneficiaries with financial or legal assistance, across 11 countries. The full breakdown of the results is now available in the 2024 Snapshot Report which you can download from this page. The Snapshot also includes case studies from Lebanon and Sudan.
More information on Protect Aid Workers is available at the dedicated website. There you can find the eligibility criteria and information on how to apply. You can also reach out at hotline@protectaidworkers.org or call the team on +33 7 77 98 71 69 (Monday to Friday – 9am-6pm CET).
