Ahead of GISF’s Global Security Risk and Policy Conference, Jon Novakovic spoke to RTÉ Radio 1 about today’s challenges for aid workers.

GISF Executive Director, Jon Novakovic, appeared on Morning Ireland today ahead of GISF’s Global Security Risk and Policy Conference. The programme is hosted by RTÉ, Ireland’s national public service media.

During the segment, Novakovic gave an overview for general listeners of what security means in the global humanitarian aid context. Jon also advised on some of the real dangers for aid workers on the ground and the need to still ‘step forward’ and ensure that those delivering the assistance ‘get home safely.’

The interview was conducted in conjunction with GISF’s Global Security Risk and Policy Conference, which is being held in Dublin this week (26-27 February). The event is thought to be the world’s largest gathering of humanitarian security professionals, with over 100 attendees traveling to the Irish capital and more joining online.

The Conference theme is resourcing and funding security risk management. Novakovic also touched on this in his interview, acknowledging how funding cuts can lead to increased risks for security operations in the sector.
