On 26-27 February 2025, GISF will host its first-ever Global Security Risk and Policy Conference. The event will be themed around funding and resourcing for security risk management.

In 2024, more aid workers were killed than in any other year on record. To tackle this critical situation, GISF will host its inaugural Global Security Risk and Policy Conference in Dublin on 26-27 February 2025.

This event is likely to be the world’s largest gathering of humanitarian security professionals. Attendees will include GISF members and associates, representatives from UN agencies, donors, universities and research institutions, and more.

The Conference title is: At What Cost? The true cost and value of security risk management. Through talks, panel discussions and working groups, attendees will explore solutions for how to maxmise security budgets and advocate for more funding to protect their aid workers. This is an especially critical topic at a time when many countries are cutting their aid budgets.

GISF is excited to welcome Tom Clonan as the keynote speaker for the Conference. Clonan is an Independent Senator in the Republic of Ireland, elected in March 2022. He has served under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and is also noted as a campaigner against sexual violence in the military.

The Conference will include many other expert speakers. They will cover topics including:

  • Reflections on 2024 as the deadliest year for aid workers
  • The state of funding and resourcing for security risk management
  • The donor perspective on funding for security and access.

The Conference is generously supported by Ambrelia, IEC Telecom, International Location Safety (ILS), the International NGO Safety & Security Association (INSSA), and Proelium Law LLP. Additional support is provided by Sigma 7, which is sponsoring a canapé reception on 26 February. This evening reception will enable attendees from around the world to network and exchange knowledge on security risk management.

The support of sponsors is subsidising the costs of attendance for national NGOs. Having national NGOs present at the Conference will be critical for amplifying their perspective on the biggest security issues and how donors and global actors can help address these.

GISF is generously supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Conference is made possible by this vital ongoing support.

Spaces for attending the Conference are very limited, but if you would like to see if you are eligible, please email charlotte@gisf.ngo. If you are interested in media opportunities around the Conference, please email christian@gisf.ngo.
