Description | Within today’s unstable and increasingly volatile world the humanitarian aid and development community faces significant challenges as it operates in remote, dynamic and often hostile environments. Do you have the knowledge, skills and experience needed to understand and effectively address your personal risks? PurposeThe risks of crime, LGBTQIA and gender-based violence, civil disorder, active shooter and armed aggressors threats, the actions of hostile governments, corruption and extortion, terrorism and insurgency, the presence of mines and UXO in post-conflict environments… coupled with natural disasters, disease and poor medical infrastructures, and high incidents of road traffic accidents all place people and the wider interests of their organization at significant risk. This makes personal safety, security and cultural awareness central to an effective duty of care program – protecting people by building knowledge and developing practical and real-world skills through highly interactive and immersive learning programs. The RSM level 4 and 5 HEAT courses are designed specifically for the humanitarian aid and development community to develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and manage safety, security and cultural awareness risks – both abroad and at home. MethodThe RSM HEAT course combines immersive learning and exercising experiences with theory and discussion group exercises, with a heavy emphasis on experiential learning. The program teaches through doing – allowing participants to immerse themselves into a realistic training environment which reflects real-world conditions. This is accomplished through our Pandora HEAT training facility, a purpose built 84-acre training site which includes villages, hamlets, military bases, refugee camps, border custom checkpoints, a mine lane, a bullet penetration area and over $150,000 of training assets. RSM has over 40 blank firing weapons, IED simulators, professional role players and inert munitions, mines and explosives. Our instructors bring international experience working specifically within the community. Knowledge and Skills
