Biography

Maravi is an ethical risk management company founded in 2014, registered and headquartered in Malawi, with other registered offices in Seychelles and New Zealand. We design bespoke solutions that allow our clients to mitigate risk and build resilience into their organisations and operations. We help organisations improve their resilience by providing advice and support in:

  • Crisis management

  • Sustainability
  • Risk, security and certified first aid training.

Maravi has conducted projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Egypt, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, Europe, and the Middle East. We specialise in helping NGOs and donor-funded entities navigate the risks their staff face as they conduct their work. We currently assist NGOs in DRC, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and South Africa among others, and we have previously worked with the NGO sector in Kenya, Sierra Leone and South Sudan. Previous clients have included:

  • An NGO that develops technology and software to aid girls’ education and health provision in rural communities
  • An NGO whose sole function is to empower girls in developing countries through arts and cultural projects
  • An NGO distributing period products in poor communities in Africa
  • Nature conservation NGOs who are at risk due to their role in combatting the illegal wildlife trade (IWT)
  • A governance and democracy non-profit building capacity within the anti-corruption space

Maravi was founded by Tim Neill and Mark Douglas, COO and CEO, in 2014, before which they worked for a global risk management firm. We employ 4 Malawian nationals full-time, and we also have a trusted and vetted network of international risk managers and advisors. The company is registered with the Malawi Ministry of Home Affairs and the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC).
