Convening the sector
At the heart of GISF’s work is our convening function. We bring together NGOs across mandates to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and strengthen collective approaches to security risk management.
We provide trusted spaces for members to connect, share knowledge, and support one another in navigating complex and evolving risks. Our convening function underpins all areas of GISF’s work, from regional forums and crisis roundtables to communities of practice and our digital collaboration platform. As a member-led network, GISF fosters collaboration, coordination, and trust, recognising that safe and sustainable access depends on shared learning and collective problem-solving.
Key convening activities
Brings together GISF members, associates, and external experts to explore key issues shaping NGO security risk management. The forums are a space for strategic discussion, cross-sector insight, and peer networking, often featuring contributions from academia, industry, and field practitioners. A virtual component may be included to enhance accessibility.
The GISF Exchange is a secure online platform where members and associates can connect with peers, share updates, and discuss security-related topics. Through dedicated forums and regional or thematic channels, it supports real-time engagement, collaboration, and peer learning across the network.
GISF runs several workshops each year, offering hands-on learning and professional development. These sessions are designed not only for security staff but also for colleagues in HR, legal, and programme roles, supporting the mainstreaming of SRM across organisations.
Roundtables provide a safe space for peer exchange and confidential discussion on evolving security challenges and crises. These member-led sessions often begin with operational updates or technical inputs and are designed to foster open dialogue among practitioners.
GISF webinars offer timely insights into specific contexts or thematic issues. These sessions feature presentations from members, technical experts, and academics, followed by Q&A and moderated discussion.
GISF maintains a presence at many of the biggest events in the humanitarian, development and NGO sectors throughout the year. These include AidEx, Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW), the European Humanitarian Forum, and more.
