This October, GISF will participate in several sessions at the world's leading humanitarian aid and disaster relief event in Geneva

The Global Interagency Security Forum (GISF) will be present in Geneva, Switzerland from 23-24 October to take part in AidEx 2024. One of the largest events of its kind, AidEx brings together thousands of participants from UN agencies, Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, local and international NGOs, donors, foundations, governments, and the private sector.

Visitors to AidEx will be able to find GISF at stand F13/a. There we will be engaging with attendees to discuss the latest challenges and solutions for humanitarian security risk management. We will also be sharing copies of our specialist publications, including our upcoming guide on Security Risk Management Strategy and Policy Development. And, we will have plenty of GISF branded merchandise available for visitors too!

In addition to our presence on the stand, GISF will also be participating in several sessions. These are part of the Duty of Care Pavilion and Conference, hosted by International Location Safety (ILS).

On 23 October, GISF’s Executive Director, Jon Novakovic, will participate in a panel titled ‘Has it ever been this dangerous to be an aid worker?’ This session will look back on 2023, which was a record-breaking year for aid worker fatalities. It will also reflect on the equally challenging year so far in 2024. The panellists will explore learnings from these difficult times and discuss how humanitarian organisations can deliver effective responses in a safe and sustainable manner.

GISF’s Head of Global Membership and NGO Services, Heather Hughes, will join the next panel, also taking place on 23 October. This session will delve into Protect Aid Workers (PAW), a new mechanism providing financial and legal assistance to aid workers who have experienced a critical incident. The discussion will focus on the lessons learned from PAW so far in its first year of operation.

Finally, Dimitri Kotsiras, GISF’s Research and Programmes Manager, will join ILS staff on 24 October to discuss the new guide on Security Risk Management Strategy and Policy Development. This exciting new GISF publication was created in collaboration with ILS. It provides senior-level staff with guidance and templates to help them ensure good security risk management strategies and policies are in place at their organisations.

“GISF is pleased to be present again at AidEx,” said Heather Hughes. “This event provides a critical platform for us to come together and discuss the challenges and solutions present in today’s security risk management context. Building on the success of last year’s event, we are excited to be participating in several dynamic panels again. We look forward to connecting with many GISF members and associates, as well as the wider NGO community, in October.”

You can see the full schedule of sessions under the Duty of Care Pavilion and Conference here. More information on the event and GISF’s presence will be available soon at the AidEx website.
