What is the goal of CSD?

CSD’s motto is Return Home Safely because they strongly believe that humanitarians and others committed to building a better world deserve the highest standards of safety and security. This allows these professionals to carry out their mission successfully and return home safely.

CSD supports over 200 non-profit organisations worldwide—including NGOs, universities, and international organisations—with top-tier security solutions.

Since the start of CSD in 2004, they have trained over 20,000 humanitarian and NGO employees to travel and work safely and securely in high-risk environments.

What are the benefits of CSD HEAT courses?

    • Their cutting-edge open Hostile Environment Awareness Training courses, offered at their HEAT hubs in Jordan, Kenya, the USA, and the Netherlands, ensure the highest quality and flexibility for their clients.
    • The courses are organised regularly to give their clients more options that fit their schedule.
    • Their courses are led by friendly, highly experienced trainers who bring their extensive practical field experience to every session.
    • CSD is well known for its hyper-realistic simulations in a safe learning environment.

What is the basis of the CSD HEAT training?

The CSD courses are based on the ESDC curriculum. The European Security and Defence College curriculum is the European Union’s standard for HEAT training, making it the global standard for HEAT training. This curriculum is updated every two years and is based on current training needs from organisations working in the field. The Advanced HEAT is based on the full ESDC curriculum. CSD’s other courses are partly based on this format.

What are the learning methods used in CSD HEAT training?

    • CSD is renowned for its hyper-realistic simulations. This helps participants improve their responses to dangerous situations and increases their chances of coming through unharmed.
    • A safe learning environment is integrated throughout the training. Ensuring participants’ safety is the highest priority. This safe environment enables participants to take risks and try out new, effective behaviours.
    • CSD uses the “Appreciative Inquiry and Solution-Focused Feedback” method. This method is a positive approach to providing effective feedback and self-discovery of effective behaviour.
    • CSD emphasises personal learning by adopting a person-centred approach that integrates personal, organisational, and country risks to improve individual worker safety.
