The Opportunity

At Plan International, we recognize the unique safety and security risks faced by our staff and associates working in complex and sometimes hostile environments. We are committed to proactively identifying and mitigating these risks, ensuring that security management is an enabler—not a barrier—to achieving our mission.

We are seeking a Head of Security Training Programmes to join our Global Safety and Security Team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and delivery of security training courses, oversee the certification of trainers, and manage induction and development programmes for security managers. You will also support other training initiatives across our global operations.

A significant part of this role involves international travel to Plan International offices to deliver training and build capacity within local security functions. You will work closely with Regional and Country Management Teams, providing expert guidance and promoting a positive, inclusive security culture aligned with our Security for All initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver security training courses and workshops globally.
  • Develop complex and technical training materials (e.g., first aid, trauma response, crisis management).
  • Certify trainers and manage induction programmes for security managers.
  • Support regional and country teams in strengthening local security capabilities.
  • Promote inclusive and intersectional approaches to security risk management.
  • Encourage incident reporting and ensure lessons learned are integrated into future operations.

About You

  • Skilled in developing and providing technical training content.
  • Deep understanding of security risk management and assessment.
  • Experience working in high-risk environments, including conflict-affected areas.
  • Background in international NGOs and leading diverse, remote teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships under pressure.
  • Confident in challenging constructively at all levels.
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise and deliver under pressure.
  • Proficient in standard IT tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, with French or Spanish being desirable.

Location: This can be flexible where Plan International has an office* that can employ on behalf of the Global Hub and you have the pre-existing right to work and live. This role requires up to 50% travel to provide training.

Type of Role: Permanent or maximum fixed term contract available as per employing office’s standard terms and conditions.

Reports to: Director of Safety & Security

Salary: We will be happy to disclose the salary and applicable benefits to applicants as part of this process, however, please kindly note that the salary and employment benefits will be set according to your location and therefore it is not possible to include full details here.
