Research & learning
GISF generates original research, analysis, and technical resources to strengthen NGO security risk management and inform how organisations respond to evolving risks.
Our work aims to generate foresight on how global developments, such as digital threats, civic space restrictions, and changing access dynamics, affect the safety and sustainability of aid delivery. Our research is grounded in operational realities and shaped by the needs of our members, with a growing emphasis on the experiences and perspectives of local and national NGOs. Alongside research outputs, we produce practical tools, learning materials, and policy briefings that help organisations apply insights in real-world contexts.
Key activities
GISF produces in-depth research on critical and emerging SRM issues, including digital threats, mis/disinformation, security in authoritarian contexts, and the impact of shrinking civic space. These reports provide strategic insights grounded in field experience.
We develop accessible, operational resources to support NGOs in applying good SRM practices. Topics range from incident reporting and crisis management to security planning for local partners.
Our research is shaped by member input. We regularly consult NGO security professionals and other practitioners to ensure GISF’s outputs reflect operational realities and address practical needs.
GISF is committed to strengthening SRM knowledge among national and local NGOs. We produce tailored research and adapt tools to reflect different structures, approaches, and contextual challenges.
