Collective influencing
GISF works to ensure that the systems, policies, and funding structures in which NGOs operate enable effective and equitable security risk management.
We represent NGO-defined priorities to donors, policymakers, and global actors, promoting approaches that support risk-sharing, sustained investment, and the inclusion of local and national NGOs. By shaping the external environment for SRM, GISF helps create the conditions for safer and more sustainable NGO operations.
Key activities
A member-led forum that shapes and delivers GISF’s influencing agenda. The group coordinates collective messaging, develops policy recommendations, and engages with key stakeholders to improve global support for SRM.
Saving Lives Together (SLT) is a framework for UN and NGO security cooperation. GISF co-chairs the SLT Oversight Committee to represent the security coordination needs and priorities of NGOs.
GISF facilitates direct engagement between NGOs, donors and policymakers to improve how SRM is understood, funded, and implemented. This includes donor roundtables, policy briefs, and technical input into evolving funding and policy models.
GISF drives collective advocacy to strengthen aid worker protection and SRM. This includes contributing NGO perspectives to global policy processes, coordinating common positions, and running campaigns that raise awareness of the people and practices that enable safe humanitarian access.
We work closely with humanitarian networks such as ICVA, InterAction, and H2H Network to ensure SRM is embedded in broader policy discussions, particularly around localisation, access, and operational risk.
